Maison&Objet Asia 2015

Engaging keynote addresses, award-winning young designers, and fine home living and lifestyle products formed the DNA of Maison&Objet Asia 2015 in Singapore last month.

The event was held from March 10-13 at Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre. Organised by SAFI, a subsidiary of Ateliers d’Art de France, and Reed Expositions France, Maison&Objet Asia was part of Singapore Design Week 2015. This year also marks the city-state’s 50th year of independence.

In this edition over 300 high-end decoration and home fashion, furniture, lighting, and decorative accessories brands took part in the fair – an increase of about 8% compared to last year.

While new trends and ideas were tossed around, six “Rising Asian Talents” from different countries showcased their award-winning designs and projects in a section dedicated to them at the event.

A special Latvian pavilion featured interesting designs like the Manu Nest, a unique hand-crafted hanging swing made from volcanic basalt fibre, and the Hugu Original, a hand-knitted, fluffy bear filled with sheep’s wool, in which you can record a personal message or song.

In 2014, there were 265 brands, with 30% of them from Asia. This year, 32% were from Asia, with the rest mainly from Europe. A total of 153 brands were new exhibitors and 47% were exclusive to Maison&Objet Asia.

“We are still growing but we try to keep to the high quality and standard of the brands. We are very selective of the products that the exhibitors represent,” said Philippe Brocart, Maison&Objet managing director, when met in the event’s press lounge.

The goal  is that in two to three years, half of the exhibitors will be from Asia. We also think there will be many more Chinese designs in the next few years, as we feel that more Chinese will want to buy Chinese designs, not just foreign, imported brands,” added Brocart.
